Awesome Things to Do In Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina

The largest city in North Carolina, Charlotte is known for excellent museums and a great dining scene. It’s known as the “Queen City” – named after the wife of George III.

 

When you are staying in vacation rentals in Charlotte, NC, you’ll want to check out the vibrant Uptown neighborhood. It’s the heart of the city and it has so much to offer. While you are exploring the Uptown neighborhood, here are a few of the highlights you shouldn’t miss.

Watch a Charlotte Knights Ball Game

The Charlotte Knights play at their home stadium, the BB&T Ballpark – which has been named the top stadium in the minor league. A day out at the ball game is a great activity to enjoy during your time in Charlotte. You can relax with some great stadium snacks and admire the views of the city between innings.

Admire the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art

This impressive modern museum is dedicated to innovative and thought-provoking modern art. You can see a number of masterpieces here, from Pablo Picasso to Andy Warhol to Alberto Giacometti and more. The museum itself is a pretty inspiring building too – with a soaring glass atrium and lots of natural light.

Discover the Past at the Wells Fargo History Museum

The town of Charlotte went through a boom when gold was discovered nearby – and the Wells Fargo History Museum tells this story. You can learn about the history of gold mining in North Carolina, as well as see a rare 19th century Concord stagecoach – constructed in the mid-19th century. You can also venture into a recreated underground mine tunnel and experience what life would have been like for the mine workers.

Have a Picnic on The Green

The Green is a peaceful, welcoming park in Uptown Charlotte – a great place to escape from the busy chaos of the city. It’s a lovely place to relax for a while and have a picnic, so bring a few snacks and a blanket! It’s also known for hosting free plays and movie screenings during the summertime, including performances of Shakespeare.

Shop at 7th Street Public Market

Head down to the 7th Street Public Market, a mixed use shopping space packed with food stalls, gourmet boutiques and much more. You can find some delicious treats to enjoy, or something yummy to take home with you. There are several communal tables in the center of the market, so it’s easy to start chatting to people you meet and make new friends.

Go for a Drink at Epicentre

One of the best places to go out for the evening in Uptown Charlotte is the entertaining and dining complex at Epicentre. It’s home to several great restaurants and bars, as well as a movie theater and a bowling alley. You can feast on beer and wings at Wild Wing Cafe, or tap your toes to live music at Tin Roof. Or, watch the sunset with a cocktail in hand from Rooftop 210.
