William Oliver Kelley, a 2019 graduate of East Coweta High school, was awarded an associate of science degree from Southern Union State Community College at its fall commencement ceremonies in December.
Kelley was named to the Alabama Community College Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for both spring 2021 and fall 2021 semesters. He will continue his academic and baseball career at Freed-Hardeman University in Tennessee.

Troy University announces Provost’s List
Several area residents have been named to the Provost’s List at Troy University for the fall 2021 semester.
They include Christina Cervone of Newnan, Caroline Darracott of Newnan, Destiny Eady of Sharpsburg, Alexandrea Shepard of Newnan and Leah Rock of Newnan.
To be eligible, undergraduate students must be enrolled full time and maintain a minimum 3.65 GPA for the semester while completing at least 12 hours of academic credit.
Thomas named to Bob Jones U. Dean’s List
Noelle Thomas of Sharpsburg, a junior majoring in nursing, has been named to the Dean’s List at Bob Jones University for the fall 2021 semester.
To be eligible, students must maintain a GPA of between 3.00 and 3.74 for the semester.
Sheppard named to Dean’s List at Shenandoah U.
Taylor Sheppard of Newnan has been named to the Dean’s List at Shenandoah University for the fall 2021 semester.
To be eligible, students must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA for the semester while completing at least 12 hours of academic credit.
Long named to Dean’s Honor Roll at Abilene Christian
Meghan Long of Newnan has been named to the Dean’s Honor Roll at Abilene Christian University for the fall 2021 semester.
Long is a junior majoring in advertising/public relations.
To be eligible, students must maintain a minimum 3.6 GPA while completing at least 12 hours of academic credit.
Hebblethwaite named to Dean’s List at CCU
Carson Hebblethwaite of Newnan has been named to the Dean’s List at Coastal Carolina University for the fall 2021 semester.
Hebblethwaite is a theatre arts major.

Kaylah Jackson of Palmetto has been named to the Austin Peay State University Dean’s List for the fall 2021 semester.
To be eligible, students must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA for the semester.

Several Coweta students have been named to the Valdosta State University Dean’s List for the fall 2021 semester. They include:

To be eligible, students must earn a minimum 3.5 GPA while completing at least nine hours of academic credit for the semester and have maintained an institutional GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Construction, education classes now worth college credit
The Georgia Department of Education and the Technical College System of Georgia are expanding the list of high school courses that can lead to students receiving TCSG college credits.
State School Superintendent Richard Woods and TCSG Commissioner Greg Dozier recently signed statewide articulation agreements for Construction and Early Childhood Education.
The agreements allow Georgia students to earn technical college credits for certain career, technical, and agricultural education (CTAE) courses.
The two subject areas join four others that have statewide articulation agreements – Welding, Patient Care, Cloud Computing, and Automotive Service Technology.
To receive articulated credit from TCSG for any of the six subject areas now eligible, students must successfully complete the identified high school CTAE course or Career Pathway – depending on the articulation agreement – and pass a credentialing assessment.
Coweta County Board of Education
At its Jan. 11 meeting, the board:
• Elected Beth Barnett chairman, Andrew Copeland vice chairman and Larry Robertson treasurer for 2022.
• Adopted Robert’s Rules of Order, Newly Revised Eleventh Edition, as its governing bylaws for 2022.
• Approved board member attendance at Georgia School Boards Association mandated training in 2022.
• Set qualifying fees for district elections. Board members are not compensated for serving on the Coweta County Board of Education, so the qualifying fee was set at $0.
• Approved field trips for East Coweta High School’s rifle team to participate in the U.S. Marine Corps Service Air Rifle JROTC Championship in Phoenix, Arizona Feb. 2 -6 and for the Northgate High School Air Force JROTC Program to participate in the Air Force National Championship for Marksmanship in Anniston, Alabama Feb. 3-5.
• Heard a summary of the Coweta County School System’s Comprehensive Communications Plan from Dean Jackson, the school system’s public information officer.
