A 42-year-old director of a Yuen Long education center was on Thursday arrested for making false statements about courses offered to children, violating the Trade Descriptions Ordinance. 
Customs recently received reports from citizens, saying the education center located on Castle Road, Yuen Long made false claims during promotion that the courses it offered were recognized by an overseas university. 
Officers verified with the university that the courses were not recognized. 
On Thursday afternoon, customs sent officers to go undercover as parents enrolling courses for their kids. The officer then arrested the 42-year-old male director responsible for curriculum development for violating the Trade Descriptions Ordinance. 
Officers also seized brochures and other promotional materials that involved the false university recognition. 
Customs pointed out that the education center has been operating since 2015. It started offering courses and adventure learning to children aged two to 12 in 2019, including rock climbing, tightrope walking and skywalk, charging HK$2,400 for 10 lessons. 
Officers are still investigating how many victims there are, and the authenticity of qualifications of instructors at the center. 
Meanwhile, officers reminded parents to pay close attention to whether courses offered by teaching centers are truly recognized by authorities or universities. If in doubt, they should consult the relevant authorities.
