Yes, you read it right. A far-right political commentator known as “destroying” liberal ideologies is talking to a crowd of teenagers seeking to define their political opinions. What can go wrong?

UCF is among the four colleges that will host Ben Shapiro, conservative political anchor and editor-in-chief of the right-leaning news website The Daily Wire.

In a post from the UCFGOP, Shapiro is going to Central Florida on March 23 to promote his new book. the facts don’t care about Your Feelings is published in conjunction with Young America’s Foundation and the College Republicans at UCF.

Shapiro is well-known for his explosive speeches and Q&A sessions in which Shapiro “destroys the libs” by condemning the feminist movement as well as reparations for slavery, the right of children to decide their gender, and anything other thing that’s considered progressive.

Young America’s Foundation is a conservative, non-profit organization, as per their organization’s website, “committed to ensuring that increasing numbers of young Americans understand and are inspired by the ideas of individual freedom, a strong national defense, free enterprise, and traditional values.”

With the financial backing of Fred Allen, founder and CEO of geotechnical consulting company GeoSoils, YAF can bring Shapiro to colleges where the conservative speaker is “in demand.”

Before dismissing this as another echo chamber “get” between conservative groups, There was a lengthy procedure to admit Shapiro to UCF. The requirements of YAF need to be satisfied before any student organization or university can apply: Young America’s Fund is the only national patron of Shapiro’s university-based events.

  • The venue should be able to hold between 1500 and 2,500 students and community members.
  • The school must permit the lecture to be broadcast live by Young America’s Foundation and allow a professional photographer to record the event.
  • The venue should remain accessible for Young America’s Foundation staff and streaming crews throughout the event.

The event should be open and accessible to the public.

Any announcements concerning tickets (if required) and other promotional items must be approved by Young America’s Foundation in advance.

A request for financial assistance must be made to the student government at the university and the student committee.

YAF also required College Republicans at UCF to provide a proposal that outlines information about the past activities of the club and its track record of success, the expected attendance, dates, and venues as well as a tentative timetable for the event as well as the amount they will contribute towards Shapiro’s honorarium, and obviously, the reasons why Ben Shapiro should speak at UCF, to begin with.
