City are keen to add a new player to their squad before the end of the window with the loan signing of a centre back a priority.
The position has been described as 'critical' by manager Brendan Rodgers with midfielder Hamza Choudhury having to fill in in central defence alongside Jannik Vestergaard in the FA Cup clash vs Watford.
City have though been given some good news ahead of the weekend's trip to Turf Moor with Caglar Soyuncu one of the five players expected to return from injury for the game.
Long term absentee James Justin could also make the squad after returning from an ACL injury, although he will not start the game.
Surprisingly, Rodgers' side have not been linked with too many centre-backs so far this January, but have been linked with names such as Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell. There has also been talk over the future of Youri Tielemans, with the City boss giving an update in his press conference.

There has been a lot of talk over the future of starman Youri Tielemans over the last few days with Brendan Rodgers asked about the midfielder in his pre-match press conference.
"He is at an age and at a stage in his contract where he has to ensure he looks at every option. I would love it to be here at Leicester City, that is natural, but I also understand it's a very short career.
“While the player is committed, focused and professional, it's never a worry for me. With Youri you can see his joy of being here, he loves being here, but you have to respect that these guys' careers are short.”

Leicester City are reportedly interested in a move for Reims striker Hugo Ekitike.
According to French media outlet Foot Mercato, City are "interested" in a move for Ekitike, who has also been linked with a transfer to Newcastle United this month.
Ekitike has bagged eight goals in 17 Ligue 1 appearances this season and has registered four assists, netting five times in his last eight matches.
The French wonderkid has been compared to Kylian Mbappe in some quarters and is determined to become the next big thing in French football.
Ekitike has been at Reims since 2013 and it has not taken the forward long to make his mark in the game after signing professional terms in July 2020.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta apparently "admires" Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans as a January move has been dubbed "one to watch".
The Belgium international has less than 18 months remaining on the four-year contract signed when a permanent arrival from Monaco was confirmed in the summer of 2019.
