Amid growing concerns over a possible third wave of COVID-19, the vaccination drive for children between 15 to 18 years of age against COVID-19 kick-started on Monday at various hospitals and inoculation centres across the country. Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin is the only COVID-19 vaccine that will be administered to children in the age group of 15-18 years, according to guidelines issued by the Union Health Ministry. “For all those aged 15 years or more, option for vaccination would only be available for Covaxin as this is the only vaccine with Emergency Use Listing (EUL) for the age-group 15-17,” the ministry had said in its guidelines. Amid speculations over dates of Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Goa and Punjab, the Election Commission of India (ECI), on Monday urged poll-bound states to accelerate vaccination within their jurisdiction. The poll-body also hinted that the dates for Assembly polls in these five states may be announced this month. The ECI recently visited poll-bound states to assess the situation in light of the Omicron situation in the country.
